Description
Walrus Audio's Lore Reverse Soundscape Generator is perfect for players looking to create dreamy, ambient soundscapes and otherworldly atmospheres. Featuring five individual programs that use different time-warping combinations of delay and reverb, this pedal has tons of sonic versatility on tap.
At the heart of the Lore are two DSP chips running in series, each with their own analog feedback paths, allowing each program to incorporate a unique mix of affected and unaffected feedback. The two feedback paths interact organically, offering a wide range of sounds and behaviors to experiment with. Since there's so much going on with this stompbox, we'll do a deep dive into the programs.
I. Reverse Delay into Reverse Reverb
Program 1 blends reverse reverb with reverse delay with an emphasis on organically interacting feedback paths. Ambiance and space grow as the signal is reversed, re-reversed, reverberated, and reversed again within the feedback network, making this program perfect for playing big open chords. Users can adjust the X knob to change how reversed the delay trails are.
II. Reverse Delay into Octave Up Reverb
Players looking to create light, airy textures will love Program 2, which combines octave-up harmonic feedback with an expansive reverb effect. Turn up the Regen knob, and you'll introduce a playful shimmer. Crank the X knob, and the decay of reverb will become near-infinite.
III. Reverse Delay into Octave Down Reverb
Program 3 combines octave-down harmonic feedback with harmonic distortion and heavy feedback, serving up a haunting palette of dark and murky sounds. Use the Regen knob to blend a lower octave into the reverb decay, and manipulate the X knob to control the decay of the reverb.
IV. Reverse Reverb into Forward Reverb
Program 4 is a dual reverb program that's great for instantly transforming a guitar signal into rich ambient pads. Turning the Feedback knob introduces a lower octave into the reverse reverb, while dialing in the Regen knob adds an upper octave to the reverse reverb decay. This program works exceptionally well with dynamic picking and strumming techniques, creating ethereal drones and pads with the mix fully wet.
V. Pitch Delay into Pitch Delay.
This setting features two "dueling" pitch delays, which shift the input signal up and down in complementary or opposing directions. With the delay set higher, this mode almost acts like a sequencer. With the delay rolled down, it behaves like a harmonizer. Use the Feedback and Regen knobs to control various amounts of pitched delay repeats, and use the X knob to change the order of the 4th, 5th, and octave intervals that the pitch delay steps through.
If you're the type of player who needs real-time accuracy, don't worry - the Lore features a tap tempo switch for precise delay. The tap tempo switch also has a dive/rise feature when held, which momentarily shifts the clock rate up or down and will keep it at that rate for as long as the switch is pressed.
Complete with a heavy-duty enclosure with eye-catching art, Walrus Audio's Lore Reverse Soundscape Generator is an excellent pedal for players seeking a powerful reverse delay with a cinematic character.
