Description
A vintage 1965 Vox AC10 Twin tube combo amp. This rare amp was originally owned by Walter Becker of Steely Dan, and the previous owner purchased the amp from the Water Becker estate auction in late 2019.
Cosmetically, the amp is in great shape for a 60-year-old piece. The tolex has some scuffs, and some fraying tolex has been stapled to the bottom of the top back panel. Additionally, a few screws are non-original. The original footswitch was not present, so it has been replaced with a Vox reissue cast iron switch--cast from the original 1960s mold.
Electrically, the amp is all original where it counts, with original Parmeko transformers and Elac alnico speakers. The original electrolytic capacitors were significantly deteriorated, so we opted to replace them with modern equivalents (F&T). Additionally, four resistors and one signal cap are non-original. All original components that were removed during servicing will be included with the amp.
Sonically, this amp is everything you want it to be, with the full-bodied midrange of early Vox amps. Thanks to its EF86 front end, Vibrato channel has plenty of Vox chime, while the Normal channel offers a similar character--just with less extended top end. In typical Vox fasion, the clean tone transitions seamlessly into a gorgeous touch-sensitive overdrive at a very reasonable volume.
A rare piece of music history formerly owned by a Rock & Roll legend, this is a one-of-a-kind amplifier perfect for any serious collector. It has been cleaned and serviced. It is fully functional and sounds absolutely fantastic.
