Description

Made for only a brief moment from the mid '70s until 1980, the S-1 was popularized by such players at Ron Wood & Keith Richards along with Carlos Santana. Featuring a trio of Bill Lawrence-designed single coils with a 4-way rotary switch & two-way toggle. This gorgeous example is a splendid player, fully functioning & in great shape for its age!

Cosmetic Condition: Wonderful condition overall with good, honest play wear & a cool vintage vibe. Various minor nicks, chips, dents & dings; scratches & some mild finish wear, mostly in the fingerboard of the first few frets. Overall the guitar looks marvelous & shows off a beautiful patina.

Neck: 3-piece maple neck with black side-dots. Maple fingerboard with mother of pearl dot inlays. Small frets show some wear, but have plenty of life in them. Flying V style headstock with Gibson Deluxe tuners in perfect working condition. 1 11/16" nut width; 24 3/4" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod is in perfect working condition.

Body: Contoured, solid maple body in natural finish. Stopbar tailpiece & Schaller "harmonica" bridge with adjustable saddles. 5-ply black pickguard is in great shape with no cracks. Guitar weighs 9 lbs 11.4 oz.

Electronics: Three Bill Lawrence single coils. Master volume & tone controls with black speed knobs. 4-way rotary knob with 2-way toggle switch. 1) neck + middle, 2), middle + bridge, 3) all three together, and 4) the neck & bridge out of phase. In the down position the 2 way toggle switch bypasses the entire 4 position rotary switch circuit and makes one straight connection to the bridge pick-up. Pots date to '75 & all electronics are in good working condition.

Case: Original hardshell case included. There is a tear in the tolex on the top of the case, but overall it's in great shape for its age.
