Description
Just recently acquired from the son of the original owner. Hummingbirds were typically made with mahogany for the backs & sides. However, this gorgeous example from 1963 features the rarer flame maple for its back & sides. A marvelous sounding guitar with an exquisite sonic texture, full of warm, rich tones & a robust, powerful voice. Nicely balanced lows & highs with superb sound projection, this beautiful Hummingbird has it all. Don't miss out on a great opportunity to own a wonderful piece of Gibson acoustic history!
Cosmetic Condition: Lovely vintage mojo with good honest play wear - various nicks, chips, dents & dings; surface scratches, weather checking & some mild finish wear. There is a crack in the soundhole/treble-side of the neck. There is a hole in the treble-side of the body from a previous input jack, however, there are no electronics currently in the guitar. The Keystone buttons on the treble-side have shrunk quite a bit, which can happen on some these older models, but they still function properly. Overall this Hummingbird has that authentic vintage vibe & possesses a voice that just loves to sing!
Neck: Mahogany neck with nicely aged cream binding & tortoise side-dots. Beautiful Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl double parallelogram inlays. Original frets show some wear, but have plenty of life in them. Gold Kluson Deluxe tuners with Keystone buttons. There's an extra strap button on the bass-side of the headstock. 1 11/16" nut width; 25 1/2" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod functions fine with Custom truss rod cover.
Body: Square shoulder dreadnought in natural finish. Solid spruce top with 7-ply binding. Tortoise pickguard with gold Hummingbird motif & multi-ring rosette. Rosewood bridge with mother of pearl dot inlays & adjustable saddle. Solid flame maple back with 5-ply binding & laminated flame maple sides finished in cherry. Guitar weighs 5 lbs 6.9 oz.
Case: Original hardshell case included along with the original Bobby Lee strap & capo.
