Description
Description: Vintage George Loften Archtop Acoustic Guitar
Condition: Good condition overall. This guitar has several small stickers on the inside of the body with the luthier’s name reading “George Loften” followed by an address. Bridge, pickguard, tuners, tail piece and round sound hole are unoriginal and a pickup has been removed. It appears a previous owner also added hand etching to the fingerboard inlays. New screw holes were added for the tailpiece, the originals were filled in. This is entirely covered by the tailpiece. There are some small cracks around the mounting point for the pickguard on the body (see photos). These cracks are not showing any movement and do not affect playability or sound. Cosmetically there are various surface scratches, nicks, dings, dents, chips and weather checking throughout the instrument. Some areas of finish have worn through to the bare wood.
Body: Double bound single cutaway body with solid carved maple top and solid carved birdseye maple back and sides in sunburst finish. Nickel tailpiece, bridge with individual saddles and rosewood base, dual bound “F” holes, bound sound hole and 3-ply pickguard. Lower bout: 16 ¾” wide x 3 ¼” deep. Upper bout: 12 ¾” wide x 3 ¼” deep.
Neck: Three-piece maple neck with bound rosewood fingerboard, pearloid block inlays and a 1 11/16” nut. Headstock features pearloid “Loften” logo with inlaid pearloid diamond, also with hand etching. Nickel tuners, 25.5” scale length.
Set Up: Professionally set up with .012 - .054 gauge round wound bronze strings.
Playability/Sound: This is a very unique sounding archtop. The carves top, back and sides really give this guitar a crisp, yet warm sound. The added sound hole is actually ideal for recording purposes and offers a little extra volume. The neck is extremely comfortable and suitable for any playing style.
Case: Includes vintage hardshell case.
