Description
Made for a brief period in the mid to late '50s, the U-2 is one of the most sought-after Danelectro guitars on the vintage market. This one had it's top refinished in a turquoise & white floral pattern, but the original copper is still present on the back of the body. Pots date to '57 & original 'Lipstick' single coils sound fantastic. Professionally set up & ready to play straight out of the case.
Cosmetic Condition: Good, honest play wear with an ultra cool, true vintage vibe - various nicks, chips, dents & dings; scratches, weather checking & some finish wear, mostly on the back of the neck. The top of the body had a custom floral finish job that appears to have been done quite some time ago. Based on the style & design it looks like it was done in the '60s or '70s. Either way, it's very professional & only adds to the vintage charm of the guitar. Overall the guitar looks great & shows off a gorgeous patina.
Neck: Nicely rounded poplar neck with dark Brazilian rosewood fingerboard & white dot inlays. Frets show some wear, but have plenty of life in them. 'Coke Bottle' headstock with open-back strip tuners in good working condition. 1 5/8" nut width; 25" scale length. Neck is straight & plays well up & down the fretboard.
Body: Single-cutaway poplar & masonite body. Top-loading metal bridge with simple wooden saddle. Pickguard is missing. Guitar weighs 6 lbs 3.5 oz.
Electronics: Dual single coil 'Lipstick' pickups. Dual volume & tone controls with newer concentric knobs. 3-way toggle switch. Pots date to '57 & all electronics are in good working condition.
Case: Unoriginal vintage hardshell case included.
