Description
Condition: This is an all-around great sounding player’s grade J-50 Deluxe. The binding along the top and back had shrunk and is crumbling off in many areas. It has crumbled off completely in some spots creating some holes where the kerfing is missing. There are several repaired and non repaired cracks throughout the top, sides and back of the guitar. There is a repaired crack below the bridge, cracks on both sides of the shoulders that have not been glued and show some movement and some smaller un-repaired cracks along the edges. There is also a smaller crack between the pickguard and bridge and a large crack on the back between the upper and lower bass side bouts that has been glued but not cleated. There is one large crack on the bass side that is difficult to see, has not been repaired and is showing movement. There is a crack in the center of the back that appears to have been glued. Several braces on the inside have been replaced with larger wood braces. These are working great. The bridge has been re-glued and has several cracks through it. The bridge plate on the inside of the guitar has some chips but still holds the strings fine. There is a small hole on the lower treble side bout from a previously installed input jack. Fingerboard and frets have moderate play wear with heavier play wear towards the lower registers. The neck is mostly straight but does have a slight back bow from the 12th fret down most prominent on the bass side. The truss rod functions fine. Cosmetically there are plenty of scratches, nicks, dings, dents chips and weather checking throughout the instrument. There are some larger scratches and dings throughout the body with a large spot of finish worn off on the neck.
Body: Double bound dreadnought body with spruce top and mahogany back and sides in natural finish. Rosewood bridge with ivoroid saddle and a tortoise pickguard.
Neck: Nicely rounded mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, pearloid dot inlays and a 1 11/16” nut. Sealed Gibson tuners, 25.5” scale length.
Weight: 4lbs, 11.5oz.
Playability/Sound: This is a very warm sounding acoustic with a large overall sound thanks to the body shape and size. Some work will be needed to really bring out the potential of this guitar but with the proper repairs, this will be a great playing guitar!
Case: Includes original hardshell case in good overall condition. Some parts have been duct taped and the handle has been replaced with rope held on by tape. One latch is broken, the others function fine.
