Description
Condition: Scratches, scuffs, nicks, dings and dents throughout the instrument. There are a couple longer finish cracks on the back of the resonator. Half of the neck was very lightly shaven down by hand (see photos). Luckily, not a lot of wood was shaved off and it is only a cosmetic issue causing no problems to the playability of the banjo. Metal parts show some corrosion and blemishing but are in overall good shape. Saddle is unoriginal but works fine. Due to the design of the tailpiece, the third and fourth strings both share a string post (see photos). Fingerboard and frets have moderate play wear and plenty of life left in them. 5th string tuning machine is unoriginal. The original circular nut for the 5th string broke and was replaced with a railroad spike which works fine (see photos). The neck is very straight and the truss rod functions fine. Some of the tuners are a bit stiff but they all work fine. All parts are in good working condition.
Body: 11” diameter head with 24 lugs on a metal tension hoop. Lugs are mounted to a one-piece flange. Nickel tailpiece, maple-based rosewood Grover saddle bridge. Maple pot with single metal coordinator rod and a 20-hole angles tone ring. Double-bound mahogany resonator with gorgeous woon grain and instricate pearloid inlays on the back.
Neck: Soft “V’ shaped mahogany neck with bound rosewood fingerboard, pearloid bow tie inlays, a 5th string capo moveable from the 5th to 10th string and a 1 3/16” nut. Nickel machine tuners, 26.5” scale length.
Weight: 9lbs, 5.5oz.
Playability/Sound: This is a great sounding banjo. The resonator provides ample volume while the tone ring produces a nice plunk to each note. The Neck is very comfortable and suitable for any playing style.
Case: Includes vintage hardshell case in somewhat rough condition. Some of the hinges are loose and the case has a hard time staying latched due to this.
