Description

What makes this guitar special: A ’69 Falcon in original condition, in the highly sought after mono configuration-this is a very rare bird, indeed. Unlike the stereo versions of the same era, it doesn’t look like it came off the space station, and you don’t need to be an electrical engineer to operate it. Straightforward Gretsch controls in tandem with the truly iconic and over-the-top look of the White Falcon make this a perfect addition to any collection. Complete with all the dazzling looks and premium appointments you’d expect, with terrific playability and a dynamite sound. Professionally setup and inspected by our expert in-house luthiers, and ready to go right out of the case.

Cosmetic condition: Terrific condition for its age, with some expected signs of aging and wear throughout. There are various scratches, dents, nicks, dings, chips, and scuffs, along with some characteristic binding shrinkage. The finish on the back of the neck has worn down from years of playing, and there is some light seam separation on the back of the headstock. The headstock overlay shows some typical separation along the edges, and much of the finish on the top of the headstock has chipped off. A previous owner had removed the FSU and shifted the bridge forward, which has left some ghosting. It has since been put back to original. The pickguard shows two very small cracks, but is in really great overall shape, and the cap for the master volume knob is missing. Overall, this piece is in superb condition for its age, with a beautiful patina.

Body: Maple back and sides with carved spruce top in white finish with dual bound f-holes. Gold sparkle binding. Gretsch plexi pickguard with white falcon logo. Dual string mutes. FSU (Floating Sound Unit) with 440hz resonator fork, and compensated space roller bridge with ebony base. Gretsch tremolo tailpiece with adjustable tension and telescoping tremolo arm. Gold trimmed back pad. 17” body width, 1 7/8” depth at deepest point.

Weight: 10 lb, 2.8 oz

Neck: D-shaped maple neck with red side dots, pearl thumbnail inlays up to the 12th fret, and pearl dot inlays in the upper register. Gold binding is in good shape, with some shrinkage along the edges but no cracks or breaks. Ebony fingerboard is in marvelous shape, and frets look good too, with a lot of life left in them. White headstock overlay with gold Gretsch logo and gold spackled truss rod cover. Grover tuners with butterbean knobs function great. Neck is straight and truss rod is fully functional.

Electronics: Dual Patent No. FilterTron humbuckers (Neck-6.34k ohms, Bridge-7.13k ohms) with 3-way pickup selector switch, 3-way tone switch, and 3-way standby switch. G-Arrow knobs, 2x individual volume, 1x master volume.

Case: Original hard shell case included, along with an original advertisement for the White Falcon and a vintage Gretsch strap.
