Description
Condition: This is a great playing Melody Maker in a rare and sought after Cardinal Red finish with a beautiful authentic vintage look, feel and tone. Various scratches, nicks, dings, dents, chips, weather checking and some hazing throughout the instrument. There is a large sticker ghost with finish wear on the lower bass side bout in which the finish has worn through to the wood. There are some heavier scratches, dings and buckle rash on the back. Strap buttons are unoriginal. Some very light touch-up solder work has been done but all electronics and parts are in perfect working condition.
Body: Solid double-cutaway mahogany body in Cardinal Red finish. Vibrola tremolo tailpiece with stop-bar bridge. The bridge is actually a wrap-around tailpiece and can be used in place of the vibrato tailpiece. Skirted control knobs with silver inserts and a single-ply black pickguard.
Neck: Slender mahogany neck. Rosewood fingerboard with beautiful variegation in the wood grain, pearloid dot inlays and a 1 11/16” nut. Three-on-a-strip open-gear nickel tuners with ivoroid buttons, 24 ¾” scale length. Fingerboard and frets have moderate play wear with heavier play wear towards the lower registers. The bass side has slightly more relief than the treble side but the neck is very comfortable to play without any playability issues. The truss rod functions fine.
Pickups/Electronics: Single-coil pickups in the neck and bridge with dual volume and tone controls and a 3-way selector switch.
Neck: 7.12K Ohms.
Bridge: 6.88K Ohms.
Weight: 5lbs, 11.5oz.
Playability/Sound: This is a great sounding and rare vintage Melody Maker. The pickups have a very useable tone and are versatile enough to use for virtually any style of music. The vibrato system works very well and makes this a sought after model.
Case: Includes unoriginal hardshell case.
