Description
A vintage 1964 blonde Fender Bassman piggyback amp. This is one of the rare transitional models, which features largely brownface circuitry and cosmetics with a black faceplate. This amp also features the desirable 6G6-B circuit, popularized by Brian Setzer. There are a couple of changes, namely the output transformer and speaker. Fortunately the ouput was replaced with an original Schumacher 125A13A, manufactured in late 1962. This transformer would have been pulled from a 1962 or 1963 Blonde Bassman, so it is identical to the original output transformer. The replacement speaker is a 1969 Oxford 12T6, which could have been pulled a pull from a higher-powered '69 Fender amp or could have been an OEM replacement for a blown original speaker. All other changes constitute routine mantainance, like new filter capacitors and a grounded power cord for electrical safety.
The 6G6-B circuit is highly sought-after, not only for its associations with Brian Setzer, but for its unique, crunchy overdrive tone that bridges the gap between the stereotypical "American" and "British" tones. In breakup the amp has plenty of low-mid chunk, while still maintaing the individual note clarity that defines the Fender sound. This rare amp will make a great purchase for any serious player, studio or amp collector. It has been cleaned and serviced. It is fully functional and sounds absolutely fantastic. Includes a rare period-correct Fender speaker cord.
