Description
The real deal--a vintage 1959 Fender Bassman. This one needs little introduction. The influence of the 5F6-A Bassman can be felt on nearly every tube guitar amp produced since its introduction in the late 50s. With its innovative circuit, the Bassman was an amplifier that was truly ahead of its time.
This is a high-quality, player-grade example. It was professionaly re-tweeded and re-grilled years ago. The re-tweed work was exceptional, and it took us considerable detective work to verify that it was indeed a re-tweed. The tweed has also aged and worn a bit, making it quite hard to destinguish from the original.
Electrically, the power and output transformers are original. The filter choke has been replaced with a Fender OEM choke from late 1960. Additionally, one speaker is original. The other three are unmarked but appear to be 50s-era Jensen P10Qs. The amp has undergone a top-to-bottom electrical service job. All non-original caps and resistors have been replaced with quality modern components. Mallory 150s were used in the preamp circuitry, and the power supply was re-capped with F&T electrolytics.
Sound-wise, this amp is what dreams are made of. Its original pine cabinet is incredibly resonant, and the period-correct alnico speakers contribute an extended yet warm top end. Its deep clean tone transitions into a mind-blowing crunch as you turn up the volume. All in all, this Bassman is the perfect match for a serious player or recording studio seeking holy grail tone. This amplifier has been cleaned and serviced. It is fully functional and sounds absolutely fantastic.
