Description

What makes this guitar special: Made for only about 20 years from ’42 to ’62, this model embodies classic Gibson acoustic tone while imparting a different response than the more well-known Jumbos, SJs, Doves, and Hummingbirds. For its size, it has a surprisingly high volume ceiling, thanks to years of play that have allowed it to open up over the past six decades. It has a mild low end in terms of its depth, but quite lively and provides a good amount of punch that extends up into its full and rich midrange. Its top end is bright and crisp with good overall articulation and just a touch of jangle. Condition-wise, it is in incredibly good shape for its age and outside of various love marks and normal wear and aging, it’s still structurally sound, still looks great, still plays and sounds great, and has a ton of visual character that cements it as a tenured favorite and a great addition to any acoustic arsenal.

Condition: This guitar is in very good condition overall, especially considering it is nearly 60 years old. It does show various nicks, dings, dents, scuffs, scratches, chips, finish checking, and other forms of light to moderate wear, but is still in fantastic shape for its age. The frets show mild wear but are even and still have a good amount of playing time left in them. The neck is comfortable and the truss rod is functioning. The tuning machines are a bit stiff but still function just fine. Since there is little room left in the original saddle and the frets are worn down, the action feels slightly high, but only by 1/32nd higher than normal factory setups and surely not unplayable.

Body: Double bound folk-style body with mahogany back and sides and a red spruce top in Golden Sunburst finish. Tortoise pickguard & single-ring rosette. Belly-up rosewood bridge with uncompensated saddle and unoriginal black bridge pins with pearl dots.

Neck: Medium depth C shape mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl dot inlays. Kluson Deluxe 3-per-side tuning machines. 1 11/16” nut width. 24.75” scale length. .92” deep at the 1st fret and 1.11” deep at the 12th.

Weight: 4 lbs 0.8 oz

Playability/Sound: The neck has a comfortable and familiar feel and should be easy to move around for most players.

Case: Includes vintage hardshell case.
