Description
What makes this bass special: The EB-2 made its debut in 1958, making this one a first-year production model. Finished in classic sunburst & featuring a beefy sounding neck humbucker, this gorgeous semi-hollow body exudes a warm, rich, vibrant tone with a lovely natural acoustic resonance. Some intelligent mods make it an excellent player's grade bass & a pro set up from the experts at Cream City Music guarantee she's ready for action straight out of the case!
Cosmetic Condition: Really nice shape for being nearly 60 years old. It has a great, true vintage vibe to it with just the right amount of play wear - various minor nicks, chips, dents & dings; surface scratches, weather checking & some finish wear, mostly on the back of the neck. There's a tiny bit of discoloration/disruption in the finish in the back of the body - most likely from the bass lying on a strap inside the case. The original banjo-style tuners were replaced with more conventional nickel tuners & as a result there are extra holes in the back of the headstock. The pickup cover should be black rather than chrome & the tailpiece should be nickel rather than chrome. Also the control knobs were changed from gold to black at some point in time as well. Regardless of the mods, the bass still maintains an ultra cool vibe shows off an absolutely gorgeous patina.
Neck: Chunky, one-piece mahogany neck with cream side-dots. Beautiful, dark Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl dot inlays. Original frets show some wear, but have plenty of life in them. Vintage nickel tuners are in perfect working condition. One back screw is missing from the A tuner because a portion of the previous screw has broken off inside the headstock. 1 11/16" nut width; 30" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod is in fine working condition.
Body: Double-bound, semi-hollow maple body with dual F-holes. Chrome top-loading tailpiece & 5-ply black pickguard. Original sunburst finish. Bass weighs 8 lbs 6.8 oz.
Electronics: Neck humbucker with chrome cover. Master volume & tone controls with vintage, black "top hat" knobs. All electronics are in good working condition.
Case: Later-period Gibson hardshell case with replaced handle.
