Description
What makes this mandolin special: A rare piece of history, manufactured in Gibson’s heyday, with stellar appointments, a great sound, and a terrific natural resonance. This piece has been well-loved and showcases a lot of wear consistent with its age. It would be a perfect restoration project for those wishing to put it back to its former glory, but makes a terrific player grade piece as-is, with a fabulous projection and tone.
Cosmetic condition: Wear consistent with age. There are various scratches, dents, dings, nicks, chips, and scuffs present, along with finish checking throughout much of the instrument. The string grommets are missing on the headstock and there is visible oxidation throughout much of the hardware. The fingerboard was removed and reglued at some point, and at that point a new nut was cut. The new nut does not sit flush with the fingerboard, but is secure. There is some visible separation along the neck joint, and at the base of the fingerboard, resulting in a visible upbow past the 15th fret. The back shows some separation along the bottom edge. The trapeze tailpiece has been glued in place. Frets show wear consistent with age as well.
Body: Solid Mahogany body with bound solid Spruce top in sunburst finish with dual f-holes. Compensated rosewood bridge with floating rosewood base. Nickel trapeze tailpiece.
