Description
What makes this guitar special: Super rare hollow body made in New York sometime in the late '50s. This one really shows its age, but still looks gorgeous, especially in that natural finish with some nice flame figuring in the body. All original with dynamite sounding De Armond single coils & eye-catching, gold sparkle accoutrements. Professionally set up by Cream City Music, so it plays & sounds fantastic!
Cosmetic Condition: Solid construction & well-built, but some of the cosmetic features have deteriorated over the years, namely the body binding & headstock overlay. There are various nicks, chips, dents & dings; surface scratches, weather checking & finish wear. The natural finish aged into a mellow golden color & the gold hardware has tarnished. The body binding shows lots of cracks with some pieces missing, along with the heel cap. Overall the guitar has an authentic, vintage look with a beautiful patina.
Neck: Chunky maple neck with cream binding & black side-dots. Nicely figured Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl block inlays. Original frets show some light wear, but have plenty of life in them. Bound headstock with mother of pearl Premier & 'Torch' inlays. Original Grover tuners are in perfect working condition. Multivox plaque with serial number is on the back of the headstock. The black 'widow's peak' finish is original. 1 5/8" nut width; 25" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod works fine.
Body: Single-cutaway, hollow maple body with dual F-holes. Art deco 'stair step' tailpiece with Gibson ABR-1 bridge on a floating rosewood base. White pleixi pickguard with gold sparkle interior. The guard is in great shape with no cracks. Guitar weighs 6 lbs 0.7 oz.
Pickups: Original De Armond single coils with cream covers & gold bezels. The pickups sound superb, with lots of tone & dynamics. Dual volume & master tone controls - original gold control knobs with gold sparkle inserts. 3-way toggle switch with gold sparkle ring. The funny thing about the toggle switch is that it controls the pickups in the opposite fashion of where it's positioned. So when it's pushed towards the cutaway it's actually controlling the bridge pickup rather than the neck & vice versa. The leads aren't long enough inside to turn it around so we left it alone. All electronics are in good working condition.
Case: Original hardshell case included.
