Description
What makes this banjo special: There’s something to be said about hand-made instruments that are built to last and this tenor banjo is no different. It is only a few years short of reaching its 100th birthday, which is a feat in itself, especially when it’s still in such good shape. It still plays great for such a simple design and has a lot of tonal character to boot. Plus, it’s still very clean for its age and still displays its manufacturing stamp on the main brace.
Condition: This banjo is in very good shape overall. Outside of various small marks including minor dings, dents, chips, and light scratches, it is still in great shape across the board. The hardware is only lightly tarnished and is still in operational shape. The frets show only light wear and still have a ton of life left in them. One bracket hook and nut have been replaced.
Body: Open-back mahogany body with nickel hardware. Simple rectangle bridge with short stop wraparound tailpiece. “Style F” marked on the center support. Flathead lug mounts. Joseph Rogers & Son “XXX” banjo head.
Neck: U/boat-shape mahogany neck and unbound fingerboard with large dot inlays. Adjustable friction tuning machines with cream buttons.
Weight: 4.20 lbs
Playability/Sound: The neck is a comfortable and familiar shape and plays easily up to the neck heel/body. It has a nice warm response with traditional mid-range pluckiness and a surprising amount of volume for its size.
Case: Includes original case.
