Description
What makes this guitar special: A gorgeous piece of Gibson history that is soon approaching its 100th birthday. We recently acquired the guitar from the second owner, who purchased it from the original owner about 50 years ago. The guitar is in the exact same condition it was when the second owner acquired it. The unique bass-side scroll on the body & super beefy mahogany neck really make the guitar stand out. Not to mention the fact that it's actually very playable! It looks fragile, but don't let that fool you - it's quite a hardy instrument. Professionally set up by us with fresh strings, it sounds wonderful.
Cosmetic Condition: Great shape considering its age - there are various nicks, chips, dents & dings; surface scratches & some finish wear. There is a small surface crack around the neck heel. This appears to be superficial as there is no movement when pressure is applied. There's a little bit of separation of the side from the binding towards the bottom, near the end pin. Again, the area is very stable & is more cosmetic than anything else. There's a little bit of seam separation in the top, right underneath the tailpiece. None of these issues affect the playability or sound quality of the guitar.
Neck: Super beefy, V-shaped mahogany neck with ivoroid binding & tortoise side dots. Ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl dot inlays. Original frets are in great shape with no wear. Bound headstock with The Gibson & fleur de lis mother of pearl inlays. The strip tuners are unoriginal & happen to be slightly mis-matched, but function perfectly. 1 7/8" nut width; 24 3/4" scale length. Neck is straight & plays well.
Body: Hand-carved, solid spruce top with bass-side scroll & ivoroid binding. Nickel trapeze tailpiece with tortoise crossbar & ebony end pins. Two of the pins are missing their abalone inserts. Ebony bridge & tortoise pickguard. Bound oval soundhole with diamond & herringbone rosette. Birch back & sides with ivoroid binding. Guitar weighs 4 lbs 6.8 oz.
Case: Original hardshell case included.
