Description
What makes this guitar special: It's getting harder & harder to find 100+ year old guitars in great shape these days, much less one that still plays as nicely as this one. Featuring a beefy, V-shaped neck with a punchy, powerful voice, this marvelous L-1 is a sure fire winner & a must-have for any vintage guitar lover. Professionally inspected & set up with fresh strings & low action, so it plays & sounds wonderful.
Cosmetic Condition: Good honest play wear with an authentic, vintage look. Various nicks, chips, dents & dings; scratches, weather checking & some finish wear. There's about a 3" crack along the treble side of the body, lower bout that was professionally glued & cleated. It's an old repair & quite stable. Overall the guitar has a great look to it with a gorgeous patina.
Neck: Super chunky, V-shaped mahogany neck with nicely aged ivoroid binding. Ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl dot inlays. Frets are actually in pretty good shape with minimal wear & plenty of life in them. The Gibson script headstock logo. The treble-side strip tuners are original, however, the high E button is a replacement. The bass-side strip tuners are unoriginal & are actually designed to be on the treble side, so at the moment they turn the opposite way than normal. Both sets of tuners function perfectly. 1 11/16" nut width; 24 1/2" scale length. Neck is straight & plays well up & down the fretboard.
Body: Solid Adirondak spruce top with ivoroid binding. Bound soundhole with double rope rosette. Original Pat Pend trapeze tailpiece with unoriginal wooden crossbar. Unoriginal floating bridge. Pickguard is missing. Solid birch back & sides. 13 3/4" lower bout width; 10" upper bout width; 3 1/2" depth. Guitar weighs 3 lbs 6.8 oz.
Case: Unoriginal, vintage chipboard case included.
