Description
Assembled in the U.S.A. from Canadian-made parts, the 2000 Godin SD5 is an excellent bass with a tone to match. Sporting passive PJ pickups, a string-through-body construction, a gloss black finish, and a cream pearloid pickguard, this bass is perfect for players looking to add a classic yet versatile 5 string bass to their collection.
Cosmetic Condition: This bass is in very good condition with minor signs of use. The finish looks great with only minimal playwear, and the neck and headstock are clean. The pickup pole pieces and the bridge screws have some noticeable tarnish and oxidation, but they are both fully functional.
Neck: Bolt-on maple neck with a 20 fret rosewood fingerboard and dot inlays. The frets show some light wear and tarnish, but they still have plenty of life and could be cleaned up easily. The neck is straight, the truss rod works great, and the tuners turn smoothly without resistance. With a 17.5mm string spacing at the bridge, this bass is in the sweet spot for a variety of techniques - it's tight enough for fingerstyle and picking, but still leaves room for tapping and slapping.
Body: We believe the body of this bass to be made of Silver Leaf maple, but we can't be 100% certain. Its gloss black finish and cream pearloid pickguard give it a charming vintage aesthetic, and its string-through-body bridge gives it a great sound with impeccable sustain. Weighs 9 lbs. 12.6 oz.
Electronics: The SD5's passive PJ pickups give it a wide range of rich, classic tones. Roll on the P pickup for that warm, growlin' thump, or crank the J pickup for that burpy, snappy single-coil sound. Complete with a Volume control for each pickup and a master Tone control, dialing in a great sound with the SD5 is effortless. All electronics are fully functional.
