Description
What makes this guitar special: An ultra rare, German-made archtop that's just oozing with super cool art deco features from top to bottom. As a side note, a similar Hoyer Special was just featured on the cover of the August issue of Vintage Guitar Magazine as part of Maple Byrne's private collection. This gorgeous guitar features a solid spruce top with bound "cat eye" F-holes along with flame maple back, sides & neck. The guitar has a bright, punchy tone that projects nicely. These don't come around very often & would make the perfect addition to any archtop collection.
Cosmetic Condition: Wonderful condition for a guitar that's over 60 years old. Various nicks, chips, dents & dings; scratches & lots of weather checking. There are two very minor cracks in the top that run into each of the cat eye holes. Both cracks are tiny hairlines & really don't affect playability or sound quality. Overall the guitar has a great, authentic vintage look to it with a gorgeous patina.
Neck: Nicely rounded flame maple neck with 3-ply binding. Ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl inlays. Original frets are in great shape with only a tiny bit of wear & plenty of life in them. Bound headstock with pearloid inlays. Open-back nickel tuners with fancy buttons in perfect working condition. 1 5/8" nut width with zero fret; 25" scale length. Neck is straight & plays great up & down the fretboard.
Body: Single-cutaway, archtop in sunburst finish. Solid spruce top with bound "cat eye" F-holes. Art deco trapeze tailpiece with nickel hardware. Floating adjustable bridge with roller saddles. Thick pearloid pickguard with the date 11-6-55 written in pencil underneath. Flame maple back & sides with multiple binding all around. 17 3/4" lower bout width; 3 1/2" depth. There are no electronics & the guitar weighs 5 lbs 11.8 oz.
Case: Original hardshell case included.
