Description
From his time with Gene Vincent and His Blue Caps to his solo work, Cliff Gallup not only furthered a technical playing style that combined flat and fingerpicking but helped to define an era of music, later going on to influence future greats like Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton. With Vincent, Gallup was well-known for choice of guitar, a Gretsch 6128 Duo Jet complete with a Bigsby vibrato. In honor of the man who cemented his place in music history in the mid ‘50s, Gretsch is releasing the G6128T-CLFG Cliff Gallup Signature Duo Jet – one of our absolute favorite models. With the look and feel of a real vintage 6128, this model quintessentially captures the early style of 1950s Gretsch Jets and brings players the perfect balance between style, tone and playability – especially at only 7.5 lbs. Its DynaSonic pickups sound excellent all-around and output a full-bodied, unrestrained bass response and very crisp and clear high-end frequencies. They sound absolutely stunning when played clean and respond well to a fair amount of gain, making them surprisingly versatile. With a lustrous gloss finish over its gorgeously-figured mahogany back and neck and a tuxedo-slick black and silver aesthetic in the front, this Signature model is about as classic and classy as a Gretsch can get.
We are a long standing fully authorized independent Gretsch guitar dealer. This is a brand new factory first guitar and comes with the deluxe Gretsch hard case, all documentation and the Gretsch Limited lifetime warranty. If you have any questions at all please feel free to give us a call!
About the Guitar (from gretsch.com)
Gretsch couldn’t be more delighted to honor original-era master Cliff Gallup, whose tastefully fleet-fingered work hot-rodded dozens of classics by Gene Vincent and his Blue Caps in the latter half of the 1950s. Soft-spoken in manner, Gallup was anything but with a Duo Jet™ in his hands, turning in solos and backing tracks of startling proficiency and truly raising the bar (and the roof) for rockabilly and early rock ‘n’ roll guitarists.
With Gretsch’s G6128T-CLFG Cliff Gallup Signature Duo Jet™, any race with the devil is one you’re sure to win. A finely crafted celebration of Gallup’s 1954 model, it rocks all the essential ingredients of his time-honored signature sound, including dual DynaSonic™ pickups, rosewood fingerboard with “big block” pearloid inlays, compensated aluminum bridge with aluminum base, Bigsby® B3BBST vibrato tailpiece with black painted trough and fixed arm, classic “arrow” control knobs, flat-wound strings, and a dark-stained headstock bearing Gallup’s signature on the truss rod cover.
