The luthier that built this one of a kind double went to great lengths to produce an instrument no major manufacturer would. Both the fingerboards and neck have been beautifully bookmatched to be mirror images of one another. The fretless top neck plays and sounds great and is such a fun and interesting contrast to the traditional fretted neck below. Four Jazz style pickups with individual volume controls and a master tone keep the electronics simple but effective. Although a bit heavy overall (14.1 lbs) the weight is very well distributed and the bass balances and plays excellently in a seated position. Cosmetic Condition: There are some minor chips, surface scratches, and there is also some chipping where the fretted neck’s truss rod is accessed. But the instrument is clean overall and plays well.
Neck: Double highly figured medium profile bookmatched birdseye maple necks with what we believe is bookmatched Brazilian rosewood fingerboards. Pearloid dot inlays, white side dot markers, and a single string guide on each headstock. The Schaller tuners are in perfect working order and the 20 frets on the lower neck are in excellent condition and have tons of life left in them. 1.5” nut widths, 34” scale lengths. The necks are straight and the truss rods have been evaluated and the fretted neck is in proper working order and sets-up very well. The truss rod on the fretless side is just about maxed out, but it still plays well and the action can be lowered via the nut slots.
Body: Solid singlecut mahogany. Black rear control cavity cover, dual four saddle adjustable bridges. Bass weighs 14.1 lbs.
Electronics: All Parts Jazz Bass pickups measure : On the fretless side – Neck: 6.41K ohms, Bridge: 6.67K ohms. Fretted side- Neck: 6.51K ohms, Bridge: 6.67K ohms. Individual volume controls, master tone, 3 way toggle to select fretted neck, fretless neck, and off. Custom made wooden knobs on controls. All electronics have been tested and are in perfect working order.
