Few guitars have the same storied history as the Broadcaster. A follow-up to the Esquire, Fender's first solid-body guitar, the Broadcaster fixed many of the issues that the Esquire suffered from. This new model featured a neck pickup that expanded its tonal range and a truss rod that countered neck warping issues, and it laid the foundation for Fender's future designs. This Custom Shop 70th Anniversary Broadcaster is a stellar recreation of those exceptionally rare guitars, and it's perfect for old-school Fender enthusiasts seeking a masterfully crafted instrument.
Starting with a 2-piece ash body, this Custom Shop Broadcaster produces a sweet, bright tone with chiming highs, clear mids, and rich lows. Its 1950 Blackguard neck has a nice and substantial feel, while its 21 medium vintage frets and 7.25" - 9.5" compound radius fingerboard make for an excellent playing experience. Players will also appreciate this model's Time Capsule finish which allows it to resonate freely and ages with use, giving it a gorgeous, worn look the more it's played.
Fender equipped this beauty with a pair of hand-wound '50-'51 Blackguard single-coil pickups that give it an incredibly authentic twang. These pickups are run through modded '51 Nocaster wiring that engages a blender pot when in the bridge position and offers a bright setting for the neck pickup. While different from your standard Tele-style Fender, we find that this guitar's unique wiring schematic gives it a remarkable vintage sound that can easily tackle anything thrown its way.
