Born from a collaboration between EarthQuaker Devices and Lee Kiernan from the legendary British punk-rock band Idles, the Gary Fuzz is a menacing dirt pedal with tons of exciting tricks up its sleeve. Boasting two flavors of grit and a healthy dose of modulation, Gary is ready to transform any guitarist's pedalboard into a sonic powerhouse capable of melting faces from miles away.
When designing Gary, Kiernan wanted a stompbox that sounded like the now-discontinued Gray Channel but with more variation. That's where you get the dual-footswitch setup. On the right side, you have a destructive square-wave fuzz with an envelope-controlled pulse width, adjustable using the YES! knob. Dial it back, and Gary will dish out a thick, hefty fuzz with unending sustain and a signal cutoff when you stop playing. Increase the knob, and you'll narrow the pulse width, creating a more nasally, biting tone like a sucker punch to the gut. Experiment with different settings and your own playing dynamics, and you'll unleash explosions of sound with unique phasing effects.
Kick things up a notch by connecting Gary to an expression pedal, and you'll be able to control the pulse width on the fly for an immersive fuzz/modulation experience.
Inspired by Kiernan's personal preferences on his Gray Channel, Gary's left side pumps out a cutting opamp distortion with tons of power. GO sets the intensity, ranging from a clean boost to a smooth, full-bodied distortion. THAT'S IT acts as a master volume for the left channel, and can be used to push your amplifier into sweet, saturated overdrive.
