Description
An elegant tribute to the legacy created by master builder John D’Angelico, the D’Angelico EXL-1, the brand’s flagship archtop, embodies the essence of the mid-century jazz guitars that gave the period a unique voice and the means to execute. Built of a laminated carved spruce top and laminated flame maple back and sides, this beautiful hollow body resonates with classic jazzbox tone. It features a floating humbucker that aptly compliments not only its history but its deep-bodied build, giving it a voice that is as full as it is genuine. It is equipped with a hard maple neck (w/ a walnut center) and a bound rosewood fingerboard with mother-of-pearl block inlays. In addition, it also features era-appropriate art deco appointments including a “stairstep” pickguard, matching tailpiece, and truss rod cover, all of which are complimented by gold hardware, giving it quite an air of classic elegance. Although jazz players will thoroughly appreciate the history and build of these great guitars, their rich sound and fantastic playability make their appeal extend to players of just about every style and type.
