Description

What makes this guitar special: Gibson has gone to great lengths with their most recent reissues and this 1959 ES-175D is no different. It is detailed in just about every possible way, starting with a VOS treated nitro finish that gives the appearance of an extremely well-maintained piece straight out of the late 50s. Nearly all elements of this build reflect the model’s history, as exemplified by its handmade zig zag tailpiece, hot hide-glue neck joint and accurate vintage tone that is partially derived from its bumblebee caps and matched-set pots. The main aspect of its tone stems from its pair of Memphis Historic Spec humbuckers, which output that timeless, ever-so-slightly dry pluck and body of the originals. They perfectly range from classic jazz to dirty blues, but can easily traverse into the merciless howl and distortion of rock and roll for the less traditional players. In all, it’s truly about as close as one could come to buying an original era piece, yet with much less wear and tear and additional stability contemporary players come to expect out of their modern guitars. Plus, it’s in fantastic condition for being used and will get a full professional in-house setup before shipping so it plays beautifully the moment it’s tuned to pitch.

Cosmetic Condition: Excellent condition overall - very clean with only some mild surface scratches.  Outside of the purposeful VOS finishing, there are very few signs that this guitar has seen any more than extremely limited playwear. The frets are practically untouched, the neck is straight, and the truss rod functions perfectly.

Body: Single Florentine cutaway, deep hollow maple body with dual F-holes, all in VOS treated nitrocellulose lacquer Vintage Burst finish.  Aged multi-ply binding. Raised 5-ply black pickguard. Compensated rosewood bridge and zig zag tailpiece.  Guitar weighs 6 lbs 12 oz.

Neck: Soft C-shape mahogany neck with nicely aged cream binding & tortoise side-dots.  12” radius rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl split parallelogram inlays. Nickel Kluson tuning machines with tulip buttons. 1 11/16" nylon nut; 24 3/4" scale length.  Neck is straight & truss rod is in perfect working condition.

Electronics: Gibson MHS Humbuckers with nickel covers & black bezels.  Bridge - 7.84K ohms; Neck - 7.22K ohms.  Dual volume & tone controls with gold "top hat" knobs; 3-way toggle switch.  All electronics are in perfect working condition.

Case: Original hardshell case included along with COA.
