Carvin and legendary guitar virtuoso Steve Vai are proud to introduce the new Legacy 3 Series Amplifiers. This 100W all-tube 3-channel amp is the result of countless hours of design and development by Carvin engineers, working closely with Steve Vai, to develop the sound Steve demands and any guitarist can appreciate. The Legacy 3's circuitry combines the best elements of the Legacy I and Legacy II, in a compact chassis. Channel 1 & 2 are the same as the original channel 1 & channel 2 circuitry found on the Legacy I. Channel 3 is a 2nd lead channel with a high gain switch. Features of the Legacy 3 include a master volume control, which controls the volume of all 3 channels without affecting preamp gain settings; a variable, footswitch controlled master boost; variable, channel-assignable reverb; and internal LED lighting which can have different colors assigned to each channel, MIDI in/through compatible with standard MIDI controllers, effect loop, bias and impedance switches, and much more.
Carvin's relationship with Steve Vai spans almost 30 years, and Steve's first signature amp, the Legacy I, debuted 13 years ago. In 2009, the Legacy II was released, which added a third channel and master volume, with circuitry engineered specifically to suit Steve's demanding requirements. The new Legacy 3 combines the best aspects of the Legacy I and Legacy II, in a compact chassis that's lightweight and easily transportable. The Legacy 3 incorporates the original circuitry of the Legacy I on channels 1 & 2, and channel 3 is identical to channel 2, functioning as a second lead channel with a high gain switch. A master volume knob controls the volume of all 3 channels without affecting preamp gain settings. Other new features of the Legacy 3 include a variable, footswitch controlled master boost; variable, channel-assignable reverb; and internal LED lighting which can have different colors assigned to each channel. As on the Legacy II, the Legacy 3 features a MIDI input/through connector, compatible with any standard MIDI controller. An RMS power switch adjusts the output from 100W to 50W or 15W, which facilitates the overdriven tone many players look for at lower volumes. EL34 tubes produce smooth distortion, responsive sound and excellent reliability. The rear bias switch allows installation of 5881 (6L6GC) if desired. Other features, including a speaker impedance switch, effects loop, post master and new pre master loops, standby switch, presence control and treble/mid/bass controls allow the ultimate in flexibility. The Legacy 3 head is also rack-mountable with optional brackets.
