Description
What makes this guitar special: Built since the mid 60s, Alvarez K. Yairi’s are widely known for their impressive build quality for the price and exceptional sound to boot. This 5067 Folk Model is no different and honestly puts many others at its price point to shame, although it has the upper hand with 40 years of playing that have allowed it to open up and take on some matured tonal characteristics. First of all, even with a mild low end, its midrange is absolutely massive and is as punchy and expressive as it is rich. The top end is super crisp and provides excellent articulation, even when flatpicking big, loud chords. It works just as well for fingerstyle players, as its volume dynamic is incredibly responsive. It boasts an impressive volume ceiling for its grand concert size, making it quite the cannon. Plus, for a guitar that’s at least 40 years old, it is incredibly clean and looks like its only been lightly played, so it will provide the next owner equal amounts of excellent sound, looks, and playability.
Condition: This guitar is in very good condition overall, if not better. It shows only minor dings, dents, and scratches throughout, but is otherwise in fantastic shape for a guitar that’s over 40 years old. The frets show very little wear and still have an absolute ton of playing time left in them. The neck is straight and the truss rod functions as it should.
Body: Double bound grand concert body with a solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides in Natural finish. Honduras split inlaid back. Black teardrop pickguard. Three-ring rosette. Rosewood bridge with uncompensated bone saddle. Black bridge pins.
Neck: Slim C shape mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlays. Sealed Grover tuning machines. 1 11/16” nut width with zero fret nut. 25” scale. .86” deep at the 1st fret and .92” deep at the 12th.
Weight: 4 lbs 5.5 oz
Playability/Sound: The slim C shape neck plays wonderfully easy and should be comfortable and familiar to a wide variety of players. The tone of this guitar is truly fantastic. The low end is subtle, but the midrange is incredibly expressive, punchy, and rich while the top end is super crisp and clean. It has a surprising amount of volume and excellent dynamics, making it just as great for flatpickers as it is fingerpickers.
Case: Includes chipboard case (hardshell cases available).
