Description

What makes this guitar special: Made for just 2 short years, the Silvertone Model 661 was an attempt to cash in on the folk music craze of the early 1960s. Unfortunately, interest, at the time, came and went and took the Model 661 along with it. Now, with folk music making a modern resurgence, this is a perfect opportunity to pick up an original instrument from the folk era. In fantastic shape for a 50 year old instrument, this tenor features a solid spruce top, laminate mahogany back and sides, and a strong, clear voice, perfect for playing in groups or as a solo instrument. Plus, it features a professional setup from out in-house tech, so you know it will play great right out of the case.

Condition: The tenor is in excellent condition overall. It does possess some surface scratches, a few dents, dings, nicks and chips, but is in really fantastic shape for an instrument that is 50 years old. The neck is comfortable, has the proper amount of relief, and plays great. The original frets display some very light wear, but are still in excellent shape.

Body: ¾ sized latter-braced dreadnought body with a solid spruce top and laminate mahogany back and sides. Tortoise body and sound hole binding with black/white/black purfling. Screwed-on tortoise shell pickguard. Pinned rosewood bridge with shaped bone saddle. White plastic bridge pins with black dots.

Neck: U shaped birch neck with 19 fret rosewood fingerboard with white dot inlays. Nickel open gear tuning machines with white plastic buttons. 1 3/16” nut width. 23” scale length.

Weight: 3 lbs. 12.7 oz.

Playability/Sound: The small U shaped tenor neck fits very well in the hand, and players with the smaller hands should have no problem maneuvering around on this guitar. The guitar puts out a surprising amount of volume for a ¾ sized instrument, and the tone has a strong mid-range presence, clear high end, and a snappy low end.

Case: Includes a gig bag.
