Description
What makes this guitar special: In absolutely remarkable condition for an instrument of its age, this L-48 is a killer in terms and looks and sound. With a strong low end presence, excellent throaty midrange, and a crisp bright top end, this archtop has a warm tone with tons of volume and projection. Outside of some minor dings and marks, light scratches, and normal wear and tear, it is in fantastic shape for 75 years, and the sunburst is still as vibrant as ever. Plus, it includes its original chipboard case and a professional setup from our in house tech, so you know it will play amazingly.
Condition: This archtop is in excellent condition overall, especially considering its age. It does show various nicks, dings, dents, scratches, scuffs, chips, and other forms of light wear, but is still in exceptional condition for its age. There are two surface cracks on the bass side F-hole, but these are superficial and do not go all the way through the spruce top. The original strip tuning machines have been replaced with modern keystone tuning machines. The frets show some light wear and still have a good amount of playing life left in them. The neck is comfortable and the truss rod is functioning.
Body: 16” archtop body with a spruce top and laminate maple back and sides in Brown Sunburst finish. Single-ply white binding. Raised tortoise shell pickguard. Floating adjustable rosewood bridge. Nickel tailpiece.
Neck: Moderately thick C shape mahogany neck (.96” at the 1st fret, 1.02” at the 9th fret). 19 fret rosewood fingerboard with Mother of Pearl dot inlays and white side dots. Gotoh vintage styled tuning machines with green keystone buttons. 1 11/16” nut width. 24.75” scale length.
Weight: 4 lb. 12.8 oz.
Playability/Sound: Even though the neck is on the thicker side, measurements-wise, it fits extremely well in the hand and is very comfortable to hold and maneuver around. The guitar has a lovely throaty midrange, strong low end presence, and crisp bright highs with a ton of presence and projection.
Case: Includes original chipboard case, original strip tuners, and vintage manuscript book.
