Description
What makes this mandolin special: This Gibson A50 is in fantastic shape for a 50+ year old mandolin and still plays and sounds as sweet as ever. Its tone stems from a rich and complex mid-range that sustains beautifully and perfectly complements a crisp and articulate top end. The back is absolutely gorgeous with rolling waves of maple flaming that are well-accentuated by its Sunburst finish and outlined by its aged cream binding. In addition, it is still incredibly clean for an instrument of its age, showing mostly minor dings and light playwear aside the natural finish checking and subtle patina, providing it as much value in aesthetics as it does in sound.
Condition: This mandolin is in very good condition overall, especially considering its age. Most of its cosmetic flaws are from light playwear and natural aging, such as finish cracking, minor nicks, dings, chips, and light scratches, but is still in fantastic shape for an instrument that’s over 50 years old. The frets show mild wear but still have a decent amount of life left and still play just fine. The neck is straight and the truss rod functions as it should.
Body: Double-bound A-style body with a solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and a flame maple back in Sunburst finish. Raised 4-ply black pickguard. Floating compensated adjustable rosewood bridge and zig-zag etched Gibson logo tailpiece.
Neck: Deep rounded mahogany neck and bound rosewood fingerboard with large dot inlays. Gibson deluxe tuning machines with white buttons. 1 3/8” nut width. 14” scale.
Weight: 2 lbs 1.1 oz
Playability/Sound: The body is incredibly resonant and has solid projection and volume. The mids are rich and the highs are beautifully crisp and articulate with sweet overtones.
